2.2.1 If You Installed the Default Eclipse Run the installer and follow its directions to install Eclipse. If you want to reserve the possibility of doing Java programming in Eclipse in the future, use the Download button to get the “default” Eclipse package. Scroll down to the “Eclipse IDE for C/C++ Developers” and download the appropriate installer for your PC’s operating system. If all that you are interested in is C++, click the link under the Download button that says “Download Packages”. Get this here if you are interested in writing programs in Java.Įither way, just download the installer for your PC’s operating system and run it. The Java Development Kit (JDK), also referred to as the Software Development Kit (SDK) includes the JRE plus the Java compiler. The Java Runtime Environment (JRE) allows you to run Java programs that someone else has compiled. (If you can’t see the “.exe” file extensions in the Windows file explorer, you should really fix that ASAP – hiding file extensions is dangerous.)Įclipse itself runs in Java, so you need to have a reasonably up-to-date version of Java on your PC. Make a copy of the file mingw32-make.exe, naming the copy make.exe. Use the Windows file explorer to navigate to the directory containing the MinGW executable files ( C:\MinGW\bin if you accepted the default location). When you are done with your selections, use the menu Installation -> Apply Changes to perform the installation. From the “Basic Setup”, select mingw32-gcc-g++-bin and msys-base-bin. I recommend installing in selected default location, C:\MinGW\.You will see a selection page like the one shown here.
